“The museum made science accessible to me. I never thought of science as something I couldn’t do, which was a huge reason why I study chemistry in college.” The Nirider’s time as museum members began after a 9 year old Olivia took a field trip at the museum and begged to come back. They’ve been members ever since. Together, they’ve attended countless special exhibitions (favorites being Lord of the Rings, Body Worlds and both iterations of Titanic) and watched HMNS grow and expand, adding new halls and showcasing new objects. One of their favorite things is that there was always something new, and you could never see everything in just one trip. That’s what made membership so exciting for their family as their kids grew and continued to come to HMNS, bringing friends, working summers with Xplorations summer camp and even enjoying senior prom in the paleontology hall. The lessons learned here have definitely stuck. Olivia is studying chemistry and pursuing the science of art restoration, and Elliot (not pictured) is in school for engineering. Membership is just one of the ways to support HMNS and foster a love of science for everyone in the family! Gifts received during #GivingTuesday allow us to share our love of science with families and grow kids interested in science into adults with passion about science.
