Fernson Brewing Company
1400 East Robur Driving, Sioux Falls, SD
Fernson Brewing Company is a new startup brewery aiming to be a part of the experiences and memories you create with the ones you love.
While brewing with his buddies, Blake mentioned that he was working on a business plan to build a brewery in Sioux Falls. One of the "buddies" happened to be Rob Green. Rob piped up and said, "Hey, you should talk to my brother-in-law, Derek. He's working on a brewery business plan too." And so, the pair got together, exchanged notes, brewed together, and quickly became allies. A new business plan was set into motion. Once funding was in place and a 12,000 square-foot warehouse was secured, they went to work on designing the brewery. Bringing Riccardo into the company early was also a key to launching the brewery on the right path. Fernson Brewing Company is well on its way to becoming a regional brewery known for bringing people together over unique hand-crafted beers.

Hay Camp Brewing Company
201 Main Street Suite 109, Rapid City, SD
Before it was Rapid City, it was Hay Camp. This historical perspective is maintained at the tavern where commerce is held equal to community. Both being Rapid City natives, Karl Koth and Sam Papendick are the owners and brewers at Hay Camp Brewing Company. After graduating from Stevens High School, Karl moved to Minneapolis to earn a degree in Physics and Sam moved to Fort Collins to earn a degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering (interesting how both locations are craft beer meccas). After receiving their bachelors degrees, they were reacquainted when pursuing graduate degrees from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
Firehouse Brewing Company
610 Main Street, Rapid City, SD
"The Firehouse" as it is called by locals, is one of Rapid City's most unique and interesting landmarks. Housed in the original Rapid City firehouse, a structure built in 1915, it is listed on the National Historic Register. The bar is adorned with authentic South Dakota firefighting memorabilia from the days of Rapid City's first fire brigades - including the original fire pole, ladders, patches and more.
Rapid City's early fire department consisted of three hose companies organized in 1881, and a hook-and-ladder company. The department became formally organized in 1907, and in 1915 this fine new fire hall was built. The two-story building, constructed of brick and Fall River sandstone, exemplifies the Chicago School style.
Following the practice of urban fire departments in those days, this one was built with living quarters for firemen, as well as offices, on the second floor. The fire trucks were downstairs, and the firefighters slid down a smooth brass pole when the fire call came in. Now home to Firehouse Brewing, the building still has its fire pole.
