Watertown's Community Theater
5 South Broadway, Watertown, SD
About Us:
Town Players, a community theater group, began in the late 1940s and presented shows at the City Auditorium for five seasons.
The organization became defunct, but was revived in 1975. The group moved to its current location at 5 S. Broadway in 1993, which serves as office, storage and rehearsal space. Most performances were held in the auditorium at Harmony Hill with larger shows at the D.D. Miller Auditorium.
When Harmony Hill was demolished in 2000, the group was faced with a problem: they had no small venue for performances. While the high school's auditorium was well-suited for musicals and shows likely to generate very large audiences, it was not cost-effective for smaller shows. So, with volunteer labor and grant money from the Watertown Community Foundation, Town Players Theater on Broadway came together.
