Fleitz Pumpkin Farm
7133 Seaman Road, Oregon, OH
About Us:
In 1906, Paul Fleitz's great-grandfather, Joseph Fleitz, purchased and began farming the Seaman Road land. The farm was inherited by Paul's grandfather, John Fleitz, who purchased Cedar Point School, a one room schoolhouse on Corduroy Road, and moved the school to the farm. The school was transformed into a home, and John and his wife Margaret raised their family of three children in the former schoolhouse. The original schoolhouse bell is located to this day on the back of the Fleitz home. In 1977, John passed away and his grandson Paul purchased the home and began farming the land.
In 1991, Paul decided to give pumpkin farming a try. Paul and his family grew ½ acre of pumpkins that year, and piled them up for sale in the front yard. In 1993, Paul created a maze from snow fence, and the family tied a corn stalk on both sides of every slat of the fence. It was quite a job, but the maze was a masterpiece! Our maze was definitely the first in the area, and sometimes we have had a chuckle wondering if we didn't launch all the corn maze mania.
In 1999, we expanded our tiny maze onto over six acres of the farm when we created our one-acre and five-acre mazes, as well as our family free maze. In 2000, we added a snack shop.
Paul's parents, Bert and Marie, have been invaluable to the success of the pumpkin farm. You'll still find Bert husking and bunching indian corn. Marie went to be with the Lord in 2008. She is greatly missed. You'll be sure to find Paul's sisters and their families driving the hayride wagon, stocking the produce, working in the snack shack, picking and bagging apples, and hauling pumpkins.
There have been many years with not enough rain and years with too much rain. Business suffered in 2001 after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. But we give all glory to Jesus Christ for his continued provision and the success and joy he has given our family through the pumpkin farm. We hope that the farm has been a blessing to your family as well, and we thank you for your support and look forward to serving you in the future.
MacQueen Orchards
7605 Garden Road, Holland, OH
History:
In 1954, Robert graduated from high school and chose to stay on the farm to help his dad. Together they began planting apples and peaches on 15 more acres of ground. They also built an 8000 bushel cold storage to help preserve the quality and freshness of the fruit harvested and sold on the farm and to wholesale outlets. A packing house was erected, and the dairy barn was converted to a salesroom.
Bob and Marlene were married in 1956 and started their family Cindy, Jeff, Lynn and Bobby. Soon, they purchased another 160 acres, and they built a retail and wholesale business, open year round.
Another cold storage was built in 1962 with the capacity of storing 33,000 bushels of apples.
An 11,600 bushel controlled atmosphere storage was built in 1995, and another 9,000 bushel unit was added in 2006. In 2009, yet another 8,000 square feet was added to the wholesale packing facilities, which included office space, break room and restrooms.
In 2013, before Bob passed, he guided the boys through erecting a state of the art computerized apple dumper, grading, and sorting mahine from New Zealand. They were always on the cutting edge of technology. This was his dream!

Hoen's Orchard
12540 CR 7-2, Delta, OH
History
Fisrt Generation:
John Adams Hoen was born in 1849 and raised on a farm in Feisburg Germany. In 1882, at the age of 33, he immigrated to the United States.
John settled in Maumee, Ohio and ran a saloon. After six years in the saloon business, John married Barbara Zihr from Staffalbach, Germany. A few years later he sold the saloon and bought 40 acres of farm ground in Holland, Ohio at an auction for $1800. At the corner of the farm, John operated a gas station along with a fruit stand.
Second and Third Generation:
In 1926 John retired and one of his sons Frank, along with his wife Josephine ran the farm. Frank and Josephine had three sons and a daughter: Francis (Fritz), William (Bill), Leonard (Lee), and Leola.
In 1951 Bill and Lee bought 100 acres of farm ground in Holland. A new barn was built. The original farm John Hoen bought was split 4 ways by the turnpike and I-475 and was sold to development
Bill married Maragret and had 4 children: Ellen, Michael (Mike), Carol, and David. In 1956, Bill started building a house on the farm and the family moved in after the completion in 1961.
Over the years the business grew. Bill and Lee continued to run the farm. More buildings were built along with greenhouses to raise plants. The produce raised was sold wholesale in Toledo and from a wagon on Airport Highway. When Airport Hwy was widened to four lanes, we began to sell produce at the barn and house. We were called Hoen's Greenhouse and Farm at that time.
Fourth Generation:
Upon gratuation for college in 1971, Mike became a full time partner in the business. In 1976 a market was built to sell produce and the name changed to Hoen's Produce. At this time we were raising bedding plants, vegetables, and fruit.
Bill died in 1981 from heart problems. The 100 acre farm in Holland bought in 1951 was split into two businesses. Lee, along with his sons formed Hoen's Greenhouse, Inc and ran the plant business. Mike continued raising fruit and vegetables, running the farm market now called Hoen's Orchard and Farm.
Before his death, Bill Hoen purhcased a 78.5 acre farm north of Delta, Ohio. Produce was raised at both the farms in Holland and Delta. In 1992, Mike built a house on the Delta farm where his family presently reside. Mike is married to Antonette (Toni) and have four chilrden: Becky, Emily, Will, and Melissa.
The market and farmland in Holland was sold in 2001 and the buisness relocated to the Delta farm. In 2004 a salesroom was built. Currently, Hoen's Orchard is owned and operated by Mike Hoen. The orchard and produce business is located north of Delta, Ohio in Fulton County.
Lawrence Orchards
2634 Smeltzer Road, Marion, OH
History:
In 1921 Dale Lawrence bought our present farm at a sheriff's sale. At that time the farm consisted of a large dairy barn and approximately 100 acres of general farm crops and pasture. The concept of milking cows for a living was short lived as in 1922 a tornado came through taking with it most of the barn. In the spring of 1923 Dale planted the first apple trees as well as a large strawberry acreage. Lawrence Orchards was born!
From 1921 until 1950 Dale and his wife, Mildred, increased the apple and peach acreage to almost 70 acres and the strawberry fields to nearly 15 acres. All of the crops were either sold directly from the field or stored in the 'common storage' for later sales to small mom and pop groceries.
Shortly after his service in WWII John Lawrence and his wife, Dorothy, bought the orchards from his Uncle Dale. To satisfy the needs of marketing such large crops, John worked with other Ohio orchardists to form Fruit Growers Marketing Cooperative, which allowed access to the newly forming "super"market chains. With the help of his wife he began an on-farm market to sell directly to consumers.
George and his wife, Vickie, brought more diversification to the farm with newer varietal plantings and new marketing plans. Applefest began in 1984 with about 200 people attending. Last year nearly 5000 enjoyed the orchard's primary festival.
Presently the orchard consists of approximately 1500 apple, peach, and plum trees. There is also a large Christmas tree planting, strawberry and horseradish plots, seedless grape vineyard, and fields for vegetable crops.
Recognizing that we are all to be good stewards of what God has gifted, we utilize an integrated pest management system and sustainable agricultural practices throughout the orchard. This lowers chemical inputs to the lowest possible level and causes the lowest possible impact on our environment.

Leeds Farm
8738 Marysville Rd, Ostrander, OH
History:
Leeds farm is a historic farming operation in western Delaware County, Ohio. The 1st generation of the Leeds family started their farming operation during the great depression of the 1930's in southwestern Ohio. In 1964 Bob, the oldest of the Leeds boys, and his wife, Gayle, moved their farming operation and three kids to central Ohio. During those early years traditional crops like corn, soybeans, wheat, Hereford cattle and of course kids, were raised on the farm. In 1988 the 3rd generation of Leeds planted their first pumpkins and sold them out of the front yard.
In 1994 Rob and Christy Leeds purchased the land near Ostrander that is now known as Leeds' Pumpkin Farm and began opening their farm to guests. Leeds Farm is family owned by Rob and Christy Leeds and operated by the whole Leeds family. Bob and Gayle Leeds are still actively involved in the operation and the 4th generation, Isaac Leeds, is also taking on more responsibility.
The Leeds Pumpkin farm acreage has a long agricultural history. The farm was first deeded in the early 1800's, and barns were built soon after on the plot of land. The original log cabin home was built in 1852 and officially recorded as a home in 1870. The original walnut logs used for the small cabin are still the supporting structure for the home. In the late 1800's the farm was owned by Solis Rummel. He brokered livestock from area farms to be shipped to market. The farm was used as a gathering place for local livestock until they could be taken to Ostrander, and loaded on rail cars.
The Big Barn, still standing at the entrance of Leeds Farm was built in 1904 from trees felled on the farm. Some of the hand hewn beams used in the barn construction are over 40' long. The barn housed the cattle, hogs and draft horses that worked the farm. The barn was restored in 2004 to preserve the craftsmanship of the original builders and now is home to the Leeds Farm Calf-A and other activities.
At Leeds we value our agricultural heritage and enjoy opening our farm to guests every fall. The whole Leeds family remembers the fun of growing up on the farm and invites families to develop their connection to agriculture and experience a small part of farm life up close.
Miller's Apple Hill Ltd
50549 State Route 113, Amherst, OH
History:
Apple Hill, a simple farm market located at the corner of State Route 113 and Vermilion Road, became part of the Miller family tradition in 1986 to expand the retail opportunities for Miller Orchards. Since that time, Apple Hill has become much more than a farm market where fruit and vegetables are sold. The first expansion was completed in 1994. Garage doors were replaced with permanent walls, windows, and doors. Out with the pot-belly stove and in with an actual furnace which meant Apple Hill could remain open year round and begin carrying bulk food. The business grew and in 1996, Apple Hill expanded again, adding on storage and retail space allowing an expanded inventory.
