Film at Lincoln Center is excited to announce Scary Movies Presents, a pop-up installment of New York City’s premier showcase for the best in new genre cinema from around the globe. This September, join us for a special sneak screening of It’s What’s Inside, the mind- and genre-bending feature debut from filmmaker Greg Jardin that captivated Sundance and SXSW audiences earlier this year.
On hiatus since hosting its most successful edition to date in 2019, Scary Movies has been proud to offer New York moviegoers the cathartic treat of experiencing world-class suspense, gore, and thrills of all stripes on the big screen, and celebrating cinema’s boundless capacity to probe the darkest corners of the human psyche alongside a dedicated audience of fellow enthusiasts. Stay tuned in the coming months for future announcements and updates about the 13th edition, coming summer 2025!
Twenty-first century social anxieties are fodder for distinctly cinematic thrills in writer-director Greg Jardin’s diabolically twisty feature debut, an ingenious social media–fueled nightmare that barrels along toward its resolution like the marble in a gleefully sadistic Rube Goldberg contraption. When a co-ed group of plugged-in twentysomethings reunite on the eve of their friend’s wedding at his affluent family’s secluded estate, their plans for a night of nostalgic revelry are disrupted by the surprise appearance of a long-estranged college classmate, who arrives at the mansion bearing the beta-test prototype of a mysterious new party game. With pitch-black humor, prodigiously stylized fun-house visuals, and a crackling ensemble cast, Jardin has crafted a wickedly entertaining fable about how the obsessive curation of online personae—and the unstable correlation between a person’s public image and their inner life—produces a tangled web of interpersonal relationships built on half-truths, omissions, and outright lies, where secrets left to fester can detonate in spectacular, blood-soaked fashion when identity itself is gamified. A Netflix release.
