1.Androscoggin River

Just a few years after being designated one of the most polluted rivers in the United States, the Androscoggin has proudly reclaimed its place as one of the most quality fly fishing destinations in the region. The “Alder Fly Hatch” takes place every summer, making mid-May to early June, as well as the months of September and October, prime fishing season. Whether you prefer to wade or use a drift boat, the Androscoggin is a picturesque, productive spot to fish, with enough variety to appeal to just about any fisherman. 

2.Sugar River

A tributary of the Connecticut River, the Sugar easily earns a spot on our list as one of the best fly fishing opportunities in state. While the entire river is lovely, Fly Fisherman can find an exclusive zone in the Newport area to cast to their hearts content. State-stocked with rainbow, brown, and brook trout, the Sugar River is a quality option whose season lasts through the summer and well into the early Fall.

Home to two of the state’s prettiest covered bridges—one in Henniker and one in Hopkinton—the Contoocook adds an historical edge to a day in the great outdoors. This 71 mile long river offers plenty of opportunity for a full day of fishing! 

4.Ellis River

Conveniently located to North Conway, the Ellis River is a fantastic option for New Hampshire  Fly Fishers who don’t have an entire day—or weekend—to devote to the sport. The Ellis boasts primarily rainbow and brook trout, and offers an opening for beginners to practice various methods. 

5.Pemigewasset River

What starts in Franconia Notch as a small stream becomes mighty and full of fish as it flows through the White Mountain National Forest. The Pemigewasset—or Pemi—is an ideal place to leave your worries downstream and drift away into a fishing oasis all your own. If the more accessible parts prove overly crowded, take a bit of a hike and find your very own piece of this Pemi paradise. 

6.Saco River

Ideal for both early morning and late evening, the Saco boasts a fly fishing only area perfect for dry fly angling. With a gravel and sand bank, the Saco was practically designed for wading, and features bigger fish than many other Granite State options. Not recommended for beginners, the Saco is a worthy challenge for more advanced sportsmen. 

7.Baker River

a lesser known fly fishing spot means for a more peaceful and private day on the water. baker river is located in the white mountains, and is convenient to warren and rumney for shorter outings.
