Anoka Halloween Capital Of The World
1925 1/2 North 2nd Avenue, Anoka, MN
The History of Anoka Halloween Capital of the World
Anoka, Minnesota is believed to be the first city in the United States to put on a Halloween celebration to divert its youngsters from Halloween pranks. When Anokans awoke to find their cows roaming Main Street, windows soaped and outhouses tipped over, they decided something had to be done. But what.
A costume parade and block party seemed like the perfect, trick. Halloween became a wonderful distraction for our town for generations to come, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. The crisp of the season, the creativity of the shops, the schools, the costumes, the laughter, the food, the fun, and the parties. There are so many reasons to love the month of October, and baby, we count those blessings every day around here.

Haunted Woods Trail
2893 145th Street West, Rosemount, MN
About:
The Haunted Woods was started by volunteers from the City of Rosemount, Rosemount High School and citizens of Rosemount. It was always held over a couple of nights and on Halloween night. The Halloween party was originally held in the high school commons area, it was later moved to the community center.
In 1982 the Haunted Woods was started by volunteers from the City of Rosemount, Rosemount High School and citizens of Rosemount. It was always held over a couple of nights and on Halloween night. The Halloween party was originally held in the high school commons area, it later moved to the community center.
In 1991 on Halloween night, the now famous Halloween Blizzard dumped over 41” of wet snow in 2 days, thus canceling the Haunted Woods and destroying many of the props used to put this production on. After the storm, the props that could be salvaged were placed into a semi trailer for storage. It continued outside until 1996, but numbers were declining. A Halloween party was done at the community center, but it just wasn’t the same.
2001 - A group of volunteers decided to give the Haunted Woods another chance. It was scaled way back. 300 people showed up at Central Park, with only Rosemount Seniors passing out candy from the shelter.
2002 - The Halloween Committee renamed the Haunted Woods to the Haunted Woods Trail (as it's known now) 933 showed up to an event that had been away for so long.
2003 to 2012 - The Rosemount Halloween Committee had made several changes over the years, from having the Haunted Woods Trail start at the Park and Ride lot to purchasing Halloween related blow-ups, adding more lighting, getting a better sound system and giving a lot of the old props extreme makeovers. The Halloween Committee has collected and donated all non-perishable food items to the local food shelves, with over 6,000 pounds of food collected so far. Each year our attendance continues to grow. Each year we have over 3,000 attend this annual event. It is only because of our dedicated volunteers that make this event work.
2012- Our 30th Anniversary Celebration. We introduced our newest prop – The Haunted Castle.
2013 – We stopped using burning candles and purchased LED candle tea lights to light up our carved pumpkins.
2014 – We reached another milestone! We had over 3,700 people attend. We reconfigured the trail with new splash pad plaza as part of the trail. The line waiting to attend the Haunted Woods Trail went through four parking lots and south on Highway 3.

New Ulm Nightmares Haunted House
1201 North State Street, New Ulm, MN
New Ulm Nightmares started out with my love of Halloween and having fun on Halloween night, dressing up as a zombie to scare local children who were trick or treating at my house. I had coached gymnastics for many years in Seattle and created a haunted house event at the gym. As I was the coach of the Turner Hall Gymnastics team, I thought it would be fun to create a haunted house at the New Ulm Turner Hall to raise money to buy new gymnastics equipment. I made all the walls and props with the help of my friend Dean. My gymnasts and their parents helped set up the haunted house downstairs at Turner Hall. We were going to open for one night only on Halloween night. I was hoping for 100 people to come through, we had over 1,000 come through!! It was a fun success! I decided to go bigger and better the next year with all new themes. My friends and family all helped along with my gymnasts and it was another success. We were able to raise money to buy new mats and other gymnastics equipment.

William A. Irvin Haunted Ship
301 Harbor Drive, Duluth, MN
About:
Welcome to the home of the William A. Irvin Haunted Ship Tours in Duluth, Minnesota.
Each year, for the month of October the Irvin transforms itself into a haunted ship, where the ghosts come alive. Your worst nightmares will come to life and it will seem like they will never end. During the self-guided tour, you’ll see how the once historic ore ship has been flipped inside out to reveal its true identity. The haunting of the Irvin is not just a rumor, mysterious sightings have been recorded. Don’t be too sure the flickering lights and slamming doors are part of the act, our ghosts may appear at any time. Walking through the dark, eerie hallways you’ll get the feeling that you’re never alone, because you won’t be. In this ship, no place is safe.
Starting in the engine room you will travel through the ship until you land in your final destination that is below the freezing waters of Lake Superior in the maze of terror. If you thought the rest of the ship was terrifying, just wait until you step down into the maze. While down in the pitch dark “dungeon” of the ship, not knowing where you’re going is the least of your worries. Watch your back; you never know who’ll be hovering over your shoulder.
If you think you’re brave enough to face your fears, come to the Haunted Ship. But remember only the tough ones make it through, alive.
