Thin Man Watts Jazz Festival
322 South Clara Avenue, DeLand, FL
This is not just a festival …it honors the lives and works of masters like Watts and Sam Rivers, by providing opportunities for young people to experience this artistic heritage, and to find the artists within themselves.
In 2011 the African American Museum of the Arts and the MainStreet DeLand Association joined together to create a multi-cultural event for the West Volusia area. Their goal was to present an annual event that brings together the white and black communities in a celebration of our common cultural heritage. The event is also intended to attract diverse ethnicities to Central Florida, so the local area sees an economic benefit. The “Annual Thin Man Watts Jazz Fest” resulted from this collaboration.

South Beach Jazz Festival
The South Beach Jazz Festival takes places in venues throughout Miami Beach over three days during January. The festival takes pride in featuring world-renowned musicians who also have disabilities. Classic, Latin and New Orleans styles of Jazz are featured. Most of the performances are free, open to the public and outdoors. The sounds of Jazz enliven the city all weekend long and draw locals and guests from around the world to listen, linger and enjoy.
The festival attracts locals, tourists, serious jazz fans, beachgoers and Lincoln Road shoppers. We are pleased to report that 2021 was an amazing safe and sound success -- the first live music festival held in Miami Beach this year. Approximately 63% of attendees are from Miami-Dade County and 65% of our out of county visitors stay overnight in the area. 81% of attendees are over the age of 35 and over. The average income of attendees is $72,000 with 39% over $100,000. 99% of attendees rate the festival good and excellent!
The 6th Annual South Beach Jazz Festival takes place in January 2022 with multiple performances throughout Miami Beach.
Overture To Overtown Jazz Festival
1440 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, FL
The Betsy’s Annual ‘Overture to Overtown’ (OTO) Jazz Festival celebrates the historic connections between South Florida jazz and the National historic jazz circuit which brought musicians who played in NYC’s Harlem to The Harlem of the South (AKA Overtown) as they made their way from club to club – across the USA. In Overtown’s heyday — and on Miami Beach — stars like Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Josephine Baker performed the same jazz standards that are performed nightly at The Betsy and will be performed live at this year’s Overture to Overtown (OTO) Festival. Historic figures like Martin Luther King, Langston Hughes, and Muhammed Ali also frequented Overtown, and were champions of its cultural legacy.
The Betsy’s 11th Annual ‘Overture to Overtown’ Jazz Festival takes place in tandem with Jazz Appreciation Month, created by the Smithsonian National Museum of American History to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary heritage and history of jazz, which also includes a special celebration of UNESCO’s International Jazz Day. The Betsy’s 2023 Festival features 30 days of jazz, involving the best and brightest players in Miami – as well as two NY-based artists, one emerging and one legacy. Nine weekly performances will be presented in The Betsy’s Lobby Salon, with additional Sunday evening concerts, presented on the Ocean Drive Promenade in partnership with the Ocean Drive Association and the City of Miami Beach. The 2023 Festival also includes two performances at Ward’s Rooming House in historic Overtown.
