Wethersfield Historical Society

Established in 1932, Wethersfield Historical Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit, membership-supported organization situated in the heart of the largest historic district in the state. As Wethersfield was the first town settled in Connecticut, our historical society provides rich insight on roughly 400 years of American history which helped shape the development of the nation. Year-round, we host a variety of programs on the history and culture of Wethersfield made possible by the generosity of our amazing volunteer staff and extended community.

Our museum and visitor center, the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center (200 Main Street, Wethersfield), is home to our exhibits, rental space, and much of our collection. The Old Academy (150 Main Street) houses our office space and research library where we aid hundreds of genealogical researchers annually. Wethersfield Historical Society additionally oversees two house museums, the Hurlbut-Dunham (212 Main Street) and Captain James Francis (120 Hartford Avenue) Houses, as well as the Cove Warehouse and Maritime Museum. Because of the generosity of the town of Wethersfield, the society additionally manages the Deming-Standish House, currently known as Lucky Lou’s Bar and Grill (222 Main Street). Be sure to stop by our hours of operation to enjoy the culture and history of our town with us.
