Only on July 4, head over to Mystic Seaport to celebrate as New Englanders in the late 1800s might have. Watch boat races or a spelling bee, have a picnic, vote for your favorite float at a parade, or play old fashioned lawn games, even make your own candles. Live period theater performances, croquet, and churn your own ice cream are other not to be missed events at Mystic Seaport on Independence Day.

Head over to Quassy for a fun-filled day of rides and games followed by a late firework show. The annual 3D fireworks show takes place over Lake Quassapaug and requires tickets. A pair of special 3D glasses is given to see the special effects.

Held on July 13-14 this year, catch a series live band performances at the Hygienic Art Park Stage and the Custom House Stage, participate in the Sailfest Charter Oak Federal Credit Union 5K Road Race, and shop local businesses such as Berry’s Ice Cream and Candy Bar, and Muddy Waters Café. The best fireworks show in the state finishes off the celebration.
