It’s winter. The air is cold, the snow’s falling—what better meal to have than a nice bowl of soup? Whether it’s as simple as chicken noodle, something hearty, or even something creamy, there’s a comfort we get from it that’s hard to find anywhere else. If you’re in Connecticut and craving a nice bowl (or even just a cup) of soup, stop by one of these restaurants.

Soup Thyme, Monroe, CT

Soup Thyme has different Soup of the Day specials throughout the week. What you get on Tuesday might not be what you get on Friday, so be sure to check in every now and then! Some of their options include chicken pot pie soup, broccoli and cheddar (vegetarian), French onion (gluten free), and roasted butternut squash (vegetarian and gluten free). 

The Soup Girl, Hamden, CT

The Soup Girl’s soup shop is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. What’s unique, though, is that if you don’t feel like going out, you can have their soups delivered right to you! The Soup Girl has a weekly delivery menu and drives soup to Cheshire, Hamden, New Haven, and North Haven.

Hot Table, Glastonbury, CT

Hot Table has dairy free, gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian soup options. Their soups are all seasonal, so head over once in awhile to check out the change of menu. For fall, they have a pumpkin bisque soup made from pumpkin, sweet potatoes, chicken stock, light cream, brown sugar, and nutmeg. Mystic Soup Co., Pawcatuck, CT

Mystic Soup Co. has different soups every day, including options that are dairy free and gluten free. Some of their past soups have been roasted cauliflower and poblano bisque, vegetable pesto soup, Polish dill pickle soup, roasted broccoli and brie, and curried winter squash with toasted pumpkin seeds. The salad bar is open almost every day. Mystic Soup’s casual, welcoming environment will leave you wanting more.

Prai Kitchen, West Hartford, CT

Prai Kitchen has a variety of soup, including a few gluten free options. Their Thai Rice Soup is simmered with ginger, scallions, and ground chicken. The Spicy Lemongrass Soup is a hotter option, as it’s made with bell peppers, mushrooms, scallions, and your choice of boiled shrimp or chicken. Seafood Soup, contains mixed seafood, galangal, kaffir leaves, and basil leaves that are cooked in a hot and sour lime juice broth.

Roodle, Wallingford, CT

Roodle is committed to providing healthy, affordable, delicious flavors. They have options like spicy miso ramen (chicken ramen in red miso flavor soup), duck noodle soup (egg noodles in a five-spice broth), and beef stew noodle soup (made with onions, basil leaves, scallions, bean sprouts, celery, and cilantro).

Noodles and Company, Southington, CT

Noodles and Company has a delicious signature chicken noodle soup made from carrots, celery, chicken breast, onions, and wavy egg noodles. It comes in small and regular sizes and goes great with their cheesy garlic bread. Noodles’ other soups include Thai chicken and tomato basil bisque. You can even order online if you don’t want to wait in line when you get there. 

Irene's Family Restaurant & Catering, Norwich, CT

Irene’s has cups and bowls of soups for you to order with your meal. Their soup of the day is often a creamy or broth soup, adding a bit of variety to their list. Irene’s signature French onion soup is the cream of the crop, though—a classic French onion soup decorated with croutons and melted provolone cheese. It’s been a house favorite since they first opened in 2003.
