About

The Museum of Darien, founded in 1953 as the Darien Historical Society, is the prime resource in the town of Darien, Connecticut dedicated to telling the town's story.

The Museum of Darien, formerly the Darien Historical Society, a 501(c) (3) organization, serves as the local history resource of Darien, through its acquisition and preservation of original photographs, documents, books and artifacts, and provides community access to these primary resources through exhibitions, lectures and educational programs, as well as through its public library.

The Museum receives no funding from the Town of Darien. We rely entirely on private funding received from membership dues and contributions as well as from our program revenue and merchandise sales.

Our Vision

Whether it’s a 17th century blanket chest owned by a Middlesex family, a hand-sewn flag from the Civil War era, or an early photograph of a Darien school principal, we believe in the power of objects to convey stories and construct larger meanings.

From its earliest, humblest beginnings as Middlesex Parish, we show how a struggling farm community along the Long Island Sound shoreline evolved into the prosperous community we know today.

We tell Darien’s story.
