With the crisp feeling in the air, pumpkin and apple flavored everything, and beautiful foliage in varied shades of yellow, red, golden, and orange, fall in Connecticut is the best time of the year. In the fall, so many fun season-based activities pop up such as fairs, food festivals, and apple picking. Grab the family and get ready to pick a bushel or two of apples to create amazing apple pies, apple sauce, and other delicious apple desserts at home. Here are our favorite apple picking spots in the Nutmeg State. 


Rose's Berry Farm, South Glastonbury, CT

This pick-your-own farm is fun in the summer and fall with their pick your own berries, apples, pumpkins, and peaches. Their selection of apples, including Golden Delicious and Macoun, can be picked in September and October. If you can’t be bothered to make your own, apple pies and apple butter are available in their store and farm stand. 

Rogers Orchards, Southington, CT

A fruit orchard and farm for over eight generations, Rogers Orchards is proud to have served the community for more than 200 years. Here, you can pick your own apples in their beautiful orchard or purchase apples, apricots, peaches, plums, pears, and nectarines in a multitude of varieties depending on the season. In addition, Rogers Orchards has a tantalizing bakery selling apple cider donuts, cookies, coffee cake, and so many different flavors of pies! Yum!

Beardsley’s Cider Mill & Orchard, Shelton, CT

Beardsley’s Cider Mill & Orchard offers pick your own apples each weekend in September and October. Keep in mind that apple varieties mature at different times, so if you are seeking a specific type of apple, check their Facebook page to see what apples are available for picking before planning your trip. Beardsley’s offers many different apple varieties to suit ever taste.

Drazen Orchards, Cheshire, CT

This classic New England orchard’s earliest days date back to the 1800s. Today, a trip to Drazen Orchards will afford guests a delicious variety of apples including Honeycrisp, Macoun, MacIntosh, Gala, Golden Delicious, and many more. Be sure to stop by when blueberries, peaches, nectarines, pears, quince, Asian plums, and Italian prune plums are in season, as well. With a kind, welcoming atmosphere and some of the best selection in the state, you can’t go wrong with Drazen Orchards.     

Averill Farm, Washington Depot, CT

Mouthwatering doughnuts and pick-your-own apples are available from Aug. 15 on. They also offer delicious apple cider, apple wine, jams, jellies, maple syrup, honey, and more. You can also pick your own pears, which can be combined with apples to create delicious sweet treats at home. Check their Facebook page for specific details of days they are open and what products are available for picking or purchase from their farm stand. 

Bishop’s Orchards, Guilford, CT

Bishop’s Orchards primarily focuses on apples for you to enjoy picking from approximately mid-August until the end of October. You’ll be able to choose from 20 different varieties of apples, with some apples maturing before others. If you’d like to pick a specific variety, like Honey Crisp, be sure to call ahead to see if it is ripe,

Scotts Yankee Farmer, East Lyme, CT

Plan your visit to Scotts Yankee Farmer from Sept. 1 until Oct. 30 to pick your own orchard fresh apples. Also during this time, you can enjoy a corn maze, wagon rides, and a pumpkin patch. Their 125 acres are gorgeous and filled with cut flowers, vegetable plants, produce, and a wide array of fruits growing on bushes, plants, and trees.

Blue Jay Orchards, Bethel, CT

Be ready for tons of fall fun including pick-your-own apples, a pumpkin patch, wagon rides, and a bakery selling all things apple, at Blue Jay Orchards. You can also purchase freshly picked corn, peaches, plums, and tomatoes to turn into a farm fresh meal at home. Blue Jay Orchards also offers apple orchard and pumpkin patch tours for a reasonable $5-10 per person. These fun tours allow participants to learn more about working on a farm and these two fruits. 

Lost Acres Orchards, North Granby, CT

Lost Acres Orchards is a family-run farm that offers visitors a quaint atmosphere, farm fresh produce, a small lunch restaurant, and a lovely bakery. Pick-your-own apples begins at the start of September, and other fresh produce can be purchased in their store including pumpkins, apple cider, squash, mums, and more. In addition, they have quilting events where you can purchase fabrics, quilts, and learn about quilting.

Lyman Orchards, Middlefield, CT

Lyman Orchards has numerous spots throughout Connecticut including their golf center, homestead, and market, but the pick-your-own orchards is what we’re focusing on. Pick your own juicy apples, peaches, pears, blueberries, nectarines, squash, and more depending on the season. They also have a fun sunflower maze that is perfect for a family-friendly day out.
