3:30 PM - Navajo Solar/Storage Sunrise Film Teaser with Kitty Calhoun. Navajo Mountain, on the largest reservation in the US, was the epicenter of the coal industry, and the land and health of the miners have suffered. Because of low-density housing and rugged terrain, 15% of the Navajos are not connected to the grid and do not have electricity. This poses extra hardship for the elderly, who rely on firewood to ward off the bitter desert winters.
In this presentation, Kitty shares a teaser from her new film and the transition to clean energy on the Navajo Reservation.
4:45 PM - Vulnerability is a Superpower with Marcus Garcia. It is okay to not be okay. In this presentation, Marcus Garcia shows a short film called “The Mentor” and bring down all barriers, talking about his personal journey after losing his climbing mentor and how it has impacted him to become a passionate mentor to others.
6 PM - Climbing Physics with Gokul Gopal of Skillzboard. Many climbers may know that carabiners and slings are rated for over 20 kN, a good cam placement will hold about 8 kN, or that the wires on small stoppers are rated for 6 kN or less. But what does all of this mean? This presentation will help you understand and estimate the forces on the most critical components of the climbing system: the climber, the belayer, and the highest piece of gear or bolt that's been clipped.
CENTRAL BANK & TRUST ART CRAWL 4 PM - 8 PM along Main Street between 1st and 4th Street. Stop by the CB&T lobby for free food and drinks and support over 50 artists and small businesses gathered together along Main Street to showcase their work.
