The Strand Theatre
Hisory of The Strand Theatre
In 1920, owner Merton A. Sybert opened the Strand Theatre. The Strand showed first-run films until its closure in 1968, and then again during a twenty-year period of operation from 1976 to 1996. In 2002, the nonprofit Strand Theatre Preservation Society was founded to restore and reopen the Strand as a performing arts venue. With the help of funding from the State Historic Preservation Office, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and other sources, and with work from numerous volunteers, the long process began.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Strand Theatre Preservation Society is to inspire, engage, and entertain the community through diverse programming as well as training and supporting the next generation of artists.
