Would you like to learn how rain barrels can save you money and energy, as well as help the environment? Join us on October 19th at 9:30 am in the Ten Chimneys Program Center.

You’ll learn how diverting water from downspouts keeps that water from becoming runoff, carrying pollutants to the groundwater and water bodies. The water can be stored for future use, such as watering your gardens. Lawn and garden watering can make up nearly 40% of total household water use during the summer. This means your water bill may almost double during that time.

A single rain barrel will save most homeowners about 1300 gallons of water during the peak summer months. Other uses can be to wash windows, your vehicle, lawn furniture, and more. Rain water contains no chlorine, lime, or calcium – it is naturally “soft” water.

Speaker Jayne Jenks, a Conservation Specialist with the Waukesha County Parks and Land Use Resources Division, will tell you more. There will be a question-and-answer session after the presentation.
