William Mitchell Jr. Park
About Us
Mitchell Park, located in the northwestern portion of the City, is named after the second Mayor and is considered to be the “future gem” of the park system. The land for the park has been acquired through several parcel acquisitions over the past 20 years, beginning in 1979, to provide a major community park for this rapidly growing area of the City.
The Park is a 405± acre partially developed site, comprised of approximately 90 acres of upland suitable for active park facility development, and the remaining acreage encompasses a variety of wetland, woodland, and surface water resources within the primary environmental corridor along the main stem of the Fox River.
Development of the park has occurred in several phases over the years in response to community needs and demands consistent with the master development plan approved by the Parks and Recreation Commission and Common Council. The present site development includes the outdoor recreational and/or support facilities as indicated below.
The park also includes a major trailhead and connection to the City’s Greenway Trail System and the Waukesha County Fox River Trail is proposed to traverse through the park.
