Radio Free Honduras incorporates the colorful tastes of salsa, samba, and bossa nova into their music, drawing influence from the diverse musical traditions of Latin America. They are a cross-cultural, multigenerational collaboration fronted by Honduran folk music legend Charlie Baran.
Prior to immigrating to the USA, Baran was a fixture in the largely undocumented music scene of Honduras in the 70s and 80s. He was an integral part of several of the biggest musical acts in Honduras during that era, all of which played an essential role in creating the sound that eventually became the genre of music known as Punta Rock.
While heavily influenced by the Punta-rock genre that Baran and his contemporaries in the Honduran music scene pioneered, Radio Free Honduras performs a wide variety of styles that they generally refer to as Latin Americana.
