The annual Memorial Day Observance will take place on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. at Gorman Wayside Veterans Memorial Park, 2377 S. Fish Hatchery Road. This year's keynote speaker is Johnathan Parker, Sergeant and K9 handler for the Fitchburg Police Department. Sergeant Parker was formerly an enlisted infantryman in the 101st Airborne Division, 2/502 Infantry Regiment, and served in Operation Iraqi Freedom (2007-2009). He has chosen "The People Behind the Heroes" for his keynote theme.
Brooklyn/Oregon American Legion Post 160 and the Oregon/Brooklyn VFW Post 10272 will provide the military ceremony following Sergeant Parker's keynote address.
Those who wish to attend in person are requested to bring their own chair. The event will be available via livestream at factv.fitchburgwi.gov/CablecastPublicSite/watch-now?site=2
In the event of inclement weather, the program will take place at Fitchburg Fire Station 1, 5791 Lacy Road, and will be announced in the afternoon on Friday, May 24 via the city's website, social media, and FACTv.
