Free Performance of Handel's Messiah
Friday, December 06, 2024 from 07:30pm to 09:30pm
St. Robert Catholic Parish, 4019 North Farwell Avenue, Shorewood
Take this opportunity to experience the Milwaukee Area Messiah Community Chorus and Orchestra (MAMCCO)'s free live presentation of Messiah. Composed by George Frideric Handel in 1741, Messiah has become one of the best-known and most frequently performed choral works in western music. The famous Halleluiah Chorus is recognized by almost everyone and heard often especially during the Christmas season. It is so well known that a custom has grown up concerning the performance of the Hallelujah Chorus. As the choir begins, the audience stands and remains standing through the end of the piece, So, when you attend our 2024 presentation and everyone around you stands during the Hallelujah Chorus, you will know why.
Also, when you attend our performance on December 6, we request that, as was requested for the premier performance in Dublin, that you not wear hoopskirts, and leave your swords at home to allow more guests to be seated.
MAMCCO (The Milwaukee Area Messiah Community Chorus and Orchestra) has been presenting this free presentation since its inception in 2009. This year will be our fifteenth year. We are primarily volunteers committed to learning and presenting this great work, providing free opportunities for people to enjoy it and giving back to the community. Sharing our talents and passion for this wonderful work each holiday season is truly a blessing we that we look forward to each year.
While there is no admission charge to attend the presentation, a free-will offering will be donated to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to serving to homeless and less fortunate in Milwaukee, by providing food, shelter, education and training.
