A program of the International Institute of Wisconsin (IIW), Holiday Folk FairInternationalcelebrates the cultural heritage of the people living in southeastern Wisconsin. This year’s theme, “Celebrate the Culture of Traditional Art,” will allow Fairgoers to explore how traditional art represents one’s cultural heritage, as it conveys traditions, values, and beliefs.
“Traditional art embodies painting, pottery, sculpture, textiles, metalwork, and many other mediums,” said Dr. Paul F. Trebian, President and CEO of the IIW. “These activities, practiced by groups of people within the world’s cultures, will never go out of style, as they promote diversity and inclusion.
“The Holiday Folk FairInternationalallows cultures to showcase their heritage and traditions. As we foster an environment of learning, understanding, respect, and tolerance, visitors will find within themselves the qualities to shape their lives and that of their community,” said Trebian. “The communities we call home help to provide an identity and a sense of belonging. They allow us to discover who we are, as our culture shapes our identity and influences our behavior.”
Special attractions include invited international performers and artisans, photographic exhibits, the Artisan Corner, the Dirty Kettle Native American interactive display, the Wisconsin Woodturners, a Children’s Area presented by Leafguard, and a bonsai exhibit.
