Tuesday, May 21, 2024 from 02:00pm to 05:00pm
Kirkland Arts Center
620 Market Street
$375.00
This course is for printmakers who know the basics of the monotype process.
We will be building on the painterly style of the print artform with enhancements including drypoint, relief/reduction, collage and chine-collé. With this combination of techniques, you will be able to expand your visual language and create complex, textural works of art.
Painting and Printmaking are closely related disciplines, and this crossover is most apparent with monotypes and monoprints. Many painters use the monotype process as a starter, or “test-kitchen,” for large scale paintings or as a way to explore a theme with ease. Monotypes are non-repeatable, singular works of art while Monoprints have non-repeatable elements alongside a fixed matrix or repeatable effect. In this class we will explore both of these printmaking approaches. We will use plexi and gelli plates, printing inks, brushes and other tools to create singular works of art. We will also learn how to make a reduction printing element, a drypoint image and images with chine-collé.
