Scaling up in Sculpture
Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 02:00pm to 05:00pm
Kirkland Arts Center
620 Market Street
Students will explore texture, form, and design of ceramic objects from a sculptural perspective. This class is best suited for students looking to move beyond functional work into abstraction and communication of ideas. In the class, we will focus on building larger by starting with small “sketches” of the student’s ideas and then work towards a larger sculptural work over the course of the class. We will be using coil and pinch techniques in the construction of larger structures, using additives for strength, fixes for common problems and refining sculptural details to fit the artist's vision. Incorporating techniques and tools from other mediums will be explored. Each student can expect to make several "sketches" in clay before developing their sculptural goals with the guidance of the instructor.
