The saying goes that a penny saved is a penny earned. And you will save more than a penny or two at any of the Green Mountain State’s long list of great thrift shops, consignment stores, and used goods establishments. You can start with these top-notch thrift stores in the state!

Twice Blessed, Wilmington, VT

Twice Blessed helps people and families. The store is a community-run thrift shop made possible by donations from residents, second homeowners, and businesses. All proceeds beyond expenses go directly to nonprofits in the area. And financial help is available to individuals in crisis. Outreach includes all of Deerfield Valley with the motto: "A hand up, not a handout."

Goodwill, Bennington, VT

Goodwill repurposes clothing, household goods, cups & plates, and other materials. It delivers used items to those in need and keeps many items out of landfills. Stores offer discounted items for men, women, and children, as well as household items for kitchens, baths, and sinks. Plus, every item bought and donated helps stimulate the local economy, create jobs in the community, and support special community projects.

The Chester-Andover Family Center, Chester, VT

Just south of Chester lies a thrift shop, family center, and food shelf that was established in 1985. In 2012, the center expanded and partnered with Neighborhood Connections to provide a social worker for counseling services. The thrift store—supported entirely by volunteers—drives all of the other services.

Experienced Goods, Brattleboro, VT

Experienced Goods sells a vast array of collectible and vintage items, including furniture, housewares, jewelry, linens and books, and clothing. Donations are always welcome, and pick-up service may be available for furniture donations located in the local Brattleboro area.

Battery Street Jeans, Burlington, VT

Established in 1991, Battery Street Jeans features vintage clothing, hand-made artisan rings, and local art gallery. Despite the name, the shop is on College Street, and it touts a self-proclaimed quirky and retro atmosphere. Also featuring art from local artists, the new owner, Stu Sporko, invites you to come visit his thrift and consignment shop and recycle your clothing in exchange for newer, sweeter duds.

Shalom Shuk, Burlington, VT

Shalom Shuk is a thrift shop run by Ohavi Zedek Synagogue, Vermont’s oldest and largest Jewish congregation founded in 1885. You'll find used brand names, upscale designer stuff, and vintage trinkets in their newly restored barn on Prospect Street.
