vt shopping outlet

From Burlington to Manchester Center, Vermont’s shopping malls and outlets will help you find just about anything you could imagine. In need of a new dining set? Camping gear? Seasonal candles? You name it, they’ve got it. Here are our favorite shopping malls and outlets in the state.

Church Street Marketplace, Burlington, VT

Built in 1980, the Church Street Marketplace is an amalgamation of around 86 retailers managed by the Church Street Marketplace Commission. The “mall” is actually a bi-level grouping of street-side shops and subterranean stores, all accessible by open-air, cobblestone walkways. Featuring many dining options, street performances, and holiday festivities, the top side of the marketplace always has something going on.

University Mall, South Burlington, VT

Often referred to as the U-Mall, the University Mall is a completely enclosed 610,693-square-foot shopping mall that is the largest of its kind in Vermont. Opened in 1979, there are currently 75 stores and services, including Applebee’s, AT&T, Bath and Body Works, Champs, Christopher and Banks, GameStop, GNC, Hannaford, IHOP, Target, Victoria’s Secret, and more.

Maple Tree Place, Williston, VT

Home of the Majestic 10 Theater, Maple Tree Place is more of a collection of stores in one location than it is a mall, but you can park in one spot and conveniently walk from store to store, so it is very mall-like. The interesting mix of retailers includes retailers like Carter’s, The Christmas Tree Shops, Best Buy, Shaw’s, and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Berlin Mall, Berlin, VT

The Berlin Mall is Vermont’s often overlooked mall. Tucked away at the Green Mountain State’s heart, Berlin is a tiny town of just under 3,000 located just south of the state’s Capital City. However, its 330,000-square-foot mall is reportedly the third largest mall in the state, and its 25+ shops include JuiceBox, Kohl’s, Planet Fitness, Verizon, and Walmart, to name a few.

Essex Shoppes and Cinema, Essex, VT

In proximity to the Essex Resort, Essex Shoppes offers dining, shopping, and entertainment options all in one convenient location. Speaking of shopping, you’ll find clothes, kitchen products, whole foods groceries, hardware, and more. Plus, the strip mall amalgamation of outlets and other stores includes also includes a cinema that plays all of the latest movies.

Quechee Gorge Village, Quechee, VT

Known as "Vermont's Little Grand Canyon," this sheer 165-foot drop from road level is a slender, deep cavern supposed carved out by the glacial lake, Lake Hitchcock as it drained. At one time the lakes spanned a distance between northern VT and the center of CT. Now, over 200,000 visitors flock to the area to enjoy the sight, as well as shopping, hiking, biking, and skiing. The QGV, itself, though, is actually a collection of 12 quintessential Vermont stores.

PowerHouse Mall, West Lebanon, NH

Sitting literally on the other side of the Connecticut River and the VT/NH borders, the PowerHouse Mall was established in 1986. This convenient collection of shops and restaurants offers plenty of free parking and easy access to both Interstates 89 and 91. Plus, the eclectic list of retailers boasts L.L. Bean, Vermont Violin, Eastern Mountain Sports, Yankee Candle, and more.

Manchester Designer Outlets, Manchester Center, VT

MDO is a collection of town-wide shops starting from the corner of Main Street and Depot Street and running the entire length of Depot Street and out of town. With over 40 designer outlets, food options, and all of the quaint sights and sounds of a small New England town, MDO stores include two small malls and road-side shops connected by roads and village footpaths.

Green Mountain Mall, St. Johnsbury, VT

We end our list with a mall that is located in the Northeast Kingdom and is practically screaming for attention. Like the Diamond Run Mall, however, this 195,400-square-foot enclosed structure may have seen better days. Now, the mall is anchored by JCPenney, and Ocean State Job Lot, Dollar Tree, Maurices, and Olympia Sports round out the rest of the tenants.
