New Works Festival
Workhouse Arts Center
9518 Workhouse Way
Workhouse Arts Center is proud to announce the First Annual New Works Festival. Workhouse recently announced a call for new scripts (plays and musicals). Scripts were carefully reviewed, and finalists were chosen. On August 24 and 25 finalists will perform a 20–90-minute cut from their full piece in front of the panel and event attendees. The top-scoring piece will win a full-length staged reading in our W3 Theater in early 2025.
Attendees may purchase a single ticket for one selected title, or may purchase a Passport Ticket, which will guarantee admission to all six readings.
Finalists and Scheduled Readings
Noon - Apartment Swap by Alli Hartley-Kong
A D.C. writer looks to move into a larger apartment for her and her soon-to-be husband through an apartment swap program. Her claim to fame and commitment issues turn the search upside down.
2 PM - Gloaming Nowhere by Mackenzie Spivey and J.S. Streible
A one-man show about growing up black in Appalachia.
Cost: Single tickets are priced at $10, Passport Tickets are priced at $25.
