Albert G. Horton Honor Guard Volunteer Meeting (October 2024)
This meeting is open to anyone willing to join in volunteering to assist in providing funeral services for our veterans.
This meeting is available in person at 5310 Milners Rd, Suffolk, VA 23434.
Currently less than 10% of the veterans buried at the Albert G Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk VA receive the military honors they deserve. To combat this, the Albert G Horton Memorial Honor Guard was established and is actively seeking to recruit both veteran and non-veteran volunteers. Please join us for our monthly meeting to discuss training facilities and recruiting for the Honor Guard.
Volunteer Honor Guard members provide and assist in administering military honors to veterans who are being interred at the Albert G Horton Veterans Memorial Cemetery and surrounding cemeteries. A person does not have to be a veteran to participate. The only requirement is Patriotism. Applicants must be a minimum age of 18 years old and commit to a minimum of one day of service per month. No experience is necessary, training and uniforms will be provided.
The Honor Guard joins directly with all active-duty branches sharing in the ceremonial procedures. Our services are provided at no cost to the family of the deceased.
Volunteers will provide honors, place flags, stand flag lines, attend recruiting events, and take part in community activities.
The AGHMSHG receives no government funding and is strictly a voluntary commitment whose members receive no monetary compensation.
To become a volunteer, all applicants must complete and sign the Honor Guard Membership Application at MITS-GIVES, Inc. Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Honor Guard. Feel free to join the monthly meeting for additional details and explore the volunteer opportunities we have available.
