Come join us for a special screening of the movie "Belle" at the Theatre Denton Annex at Golden Triangle Mall (By Dillards). Don't miss out on this opportunity to watch a great film with your friends and family. See you there!
In 2015 Belle was the first feature film shown at the Denton Black film Festival. Since it is Women's History month we thought it fitting to share this story featuring a great lead performance from a Black Actress (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), a Black Woman Director (Amma Asante), and a Black Woman writer(Misan Sagay)telling the story of a Black woman (Dido Elizabeth Belle) in European history who was not enslaved. This is historical fiction inspired by an 18th century portrait from Scottish portraitist, David Martin in the Zoffany style. It is a portrait of two beautiful, young English ladies, draped in silks and pearls. The twist? One is b-racial. This is a time of legal significance as the 1786 court case known as the Zong Massacre resulted in a ruling which contributed to the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act of 1807.
Time: Doors open at 3:30PM, Film begins at 4:00pm
Location: Theatre Denton Annex/ Golden Triangle Mall.
