Boonville Days: Texas Heritage Festival

Join the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History for the 19th Annual Boonville Days: Texas Heritage Festival!

To kick off the festival, runners and walkers of all ages are welcome to join in the 16th Annual Buffalo Stampede Half Marathon & 5K Race at 7:30 am starting at the Brazos Center.

After the race, the entire family can enjoy other fun activities highlighting Texas History at this free heritage festival!

Learn about Brazos County’s pioneer history: visit with characters in period costume, enjoy cowboys, reenactors, musicians, dancers, artisans, and much more.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to observe demonstrations of frontier skills and trades including flint-knapping, spinning, weaving, quilting, and blacksmithing.

This is a family-friendly event, so there will be free pony rides, train rides, and other activities for children. The Museum will be open free with more exhibits, activities, and demonstrators inside!

Chuck Wagon Lunches
Don't miss the Festival's delicious Chuck Wagon Lunches on Saturday, October 12.  Enjoy cowboy cookin’ in style by the best – tickets are only $20 each!  Teams in period dress will cook on site with authentic Chuck Wagons, cooking the ol’ time trail way with Dutch ovens over a campfire. Wagon teams will set up in the Brazos Center Park area Friday afternoon and will cook the hearty cowboy lunches on site Saturday morning.  Pat Gavin and the Buckaroo Band will be back to perform great old time cowboy music in the Chuck Wagon dining area.

Lunch tickets for the Chuck Wagon noon meal will be pre-sold at the Museum for $20 or online  (includes bottled water, chicken fried steak, beans, potatoes, corn bread or biscuit, and cobbler). The lunches are big, so children can share a plate. Meals are only served from 12-1.

Tickets are limited (only 200) and are on sale now. It’s a wonderful chance to step back in time and experience some Texas history!

Festival Activities
Visitors to Boonville Days and the Boonville Heritage Park on Saturday, October 12, 9 am—4 pm, will learn about Brazos County’s pioneer history: see characters in period costume; enjoy cowboys, civil war reenactors, musicians, dancers, artists, and much more.

The public will also have the opportunity to observe first-hand demonstrations of frontier skills and trades including flint-making, spinning, quilting, weaving, print-making, and blacksmithing. There will also be a variety of fun period crafts designed to keep children & adults entertained!

Museum and Exhibits
In addition to all the demonstrations of pioneer history and fun children's games, crafts, and other activities, families can view a variety of live animals, and browse through the Museum's Discovery Room, library, and exhibition gallery. Visitors can also explore the Museum's Texas History display and the current special exhibit: Steam, Smoke & Steel: Riding the Rails through Time, on display through October 26.

Boonville Heritage Cabin

Like historic buildings? Don't miss a chance to see inside the restored and furnished 19th c. dogtrot cabin, replica buildings of the Boonville Court House, a smokehouse, the Masonic lodge, educational activities, booths, and other re-enactors at Boonville Heritage Park! Learn about the fascinating history of the town of Boonville, the original Brazos County seat.

Staff will be on hand to share stories about the park and the colorful history of the town of Boonville, the original Brazos County seat.
