Austin Jazz Hall of Fame Awards
with Special Tribute to Dr. James Polk
The JAZZ HALL of FAME AWARDS honors accomplished Austin born or based music professionals. Its inductees are testament to the depth of talent this city has cultivated through the years. This year’s honorees continue the stellar legacy.
CARMEN BRADFORD - an Austin native and Grammy Award winning Count Basie Orchestra singer returns to the place where her career began - right next door at the at the Paramount Theater in 1983.
DAN STRAIT planted his roots here in 1963 when he opened STRAIT MUSIC COMPANY - a cornerstone to not only jazz, but the entire Austin Music community. His desire to build lasting friendships with his customers drove him to see to it that they had whatever they needed to succeed.
TEDDY WILSON, also a native Austinite born in 1912, was dubbed “The definitive swing pianist”. He was world renowned having performed with greats like Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Benny Goodman, Lester Young, Ella Fitzgerald and so many others.
In addition to honoring these amazing folks, the Austin Jazz Society will pay tribute to the late, great Dr. James Polk - pianist, bandleader, mentor and friend to so many.
