No one is quite sure when the factory was built. It seems to have always been. A simple plaque reading “Tremble Industries” adorns the facade, now tarnished and weathered by the passage of countless years. The Tremble family, pioneers in the field of alchemy and machinery, were said to have “struck it rich” when they discovered a vein of pure Frightonium ore in a labyrinthine cave system beneath where the factory now stands.
The factory was opened to mine and refine the Frightonium for a myriad of purposes; it was used in hundreds of products from the mundane to groundbreaking new compounds. For a while, it seemed as if Tremble Industries had ushered in a new era of prosperity and innovation. The local town flourished, with the factory serving as its beating heart.
That was until the side effects were discovered. It appeared that Frightonium had an almost supernatural effect on objects, places, even living creatures. Mutations, hauntings, possessions, and unexplainable phenomena were just some of the adverse results of exposure. After a series of increasingly bizarre and terrifying incidents, the recall of all items containing Frightonium was mandated, and the factory was abruptly shut down and sealed. The once vibrant town fell into decay, overshadowed by the eerie presence of the dark factory.
Undeterred by the calamities and their thirst for power not yet satisfied, the Tremble family retreated into the bowels of their creation to study the corrupted ore. This led to a legacy of nightmarish experimentation. They delved into forbidden rituals, merging the arcane and the industrial in a desperate attempt to unlock Frightonium’s secrets, blending science with the occult in a grotesque parody of progress.
Whispers and rumors spread like wildfire. Some say they discovered that the veins of Frightonium connected to an actual hell mouth, a portal to a dark and malevolent realm. Others say the ore corrupted the Trembles themselves, twisting their minds and bodies, driving them to explore even darker experiments and more sinister interests. Some procedures were said to involve live subjects.
The Trembles began using the crystals to attract supernatural and paranormal entities, leading to unholy alliances, and turning the factory into a magnet for all things otherworldly. The factory became a nexus of supernatural energy. The factory, now a bastion of madness, would sporadically spring to life, churning out thick, acrid smoke. Lights would flicker erratically in the windows, and an ominous rumble would emanate from deep below, shaking the very ground.
Occasionally, the Trembles would extend an invitation to the outside world, allowing select outsiders to tour the factory and marvel at its dark and twisted technology. These events were shrouded in an air of morbid curiosity and dread, as those who entered often found themselves ensnared in a labyrinth of horrors. It became an open secret that fewer people came out than entered, their fates sealed by the demented machinations of Tremble Industries.
