Jaswell's Farm
Started by Nicholas Jaswell (Nicola Gesualdi) in 1899, after he emigrated from Italy in the 1890’s. In the 1930’s Nicholas passed the farm to his son Joe. Joe ran the farm with the help of his son, primarily selling his harvest to the farmer’s market in Providence. In 1967, Joe’s son Richard took over with his wife Pat.
This was the beginning of the Jaswell’s Farm that we know and love today. Richard and Pat opted to concentrate on selling their produce direct to their customers. They constructed our first farmstand and started offering pick your own on many products. Over the years, they diversified their offerings including adding a cider mill in 1970. In 1998, they expanded again adding a pasteurizer for the apple cider and an on-site bakery. In 1999, Richard and Pat’s two children took over the business to continue the proud family tradition started by their great-grandfather 100 years earlier.
Jaswell’s Farm continues to grow and evolve with the ever-changing environment. The fourth generation is comprised of one of the few brother/sister teams in RI agriculture. Chris and Allison took over from their parents in 1999 after graduating from Bryant University in the mid 1990’s. They invite you to visit and enjoy what they and their family have worked so hard to build and sustain. As the fifth generation grows along with the harvest, we are hopeful that the proud family tradition will continue for another generation.
