Open your mind and world. Explore our shared humanity across 10,000 years of history–-from the very first cities of the Middle East to the lives of Native American communities today.
Globetrot in a day
Travel through Africa, Asia, Mexico and Central America, and the Mediterranean while taking in their vibrant cultures through ancient artifacts, world wonders, and contemporary artworks. With exciting exhibitions from Ancient Food and Flavor unwrapping the world’s oldest leftovers to U-2 Spy Planes and Aerial Archaeology, there is something for all ages. In between adventures, take a moment in our tranquil gardens and courtyards filled with lush seasonal foliage, relaxing fountains and ponds, and communal spaces to picnic and play.
10:00 a.m - 4:00 p.m: Free Museum Days: Fireman's Hall Museum
Located in historic Old City Philadelphia, the museum is housed in a renovated 1898 firehouse. Fireman’s Hall Museum is one of the nation’s premier fire museums focused on the preservation of Philly fire history and promoting fire safety. Philadelphia is the birthplace of the first volunteer fire companies. In 1736, Benjamin Franklin founded the first volunteer fire company called The Union Fire Company.
12:00 p.m - 4:00 p.m: Free Museum Days: Ebenezer Maxwell Mansion
Philadelphia’s only Victorian historic house museum, Ebenezer Maxwell Mansion tell the stories of men and women in the period from the Civil War through 1900, using material culture and spaces to unpack this complex era.
5:00 p.m - 9:00 p.m: The Black Music Month 45th Anniversary Celebration Concert + Fireworks
Join us as we celebrate Black Music Month, which was founded in Philadelphia. Hosted and curated by Philadelphia music legend Dyana Williams, this brand new celebration will feature multiple different expressions of black music, performed by some of Philadelphia’s most well-known and sought-after black musicians. Guests will be treated to incredible music, food, and cocktails concluding with a dazzling firework display under the stars at the iconic Dell Music Center.
