10:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m: Free Museum Days: Science History Institute

Bugs and Bakelite buttons. Lab notes and lifesaving letters. Vaccines and vats of bright, colorful dyes. Our exhibitions explore the diverse and surprising histories behind the science that shapes our world. Join us in our museum for a family-friendly program that highlights the many strange and surprising stories from the history of science in the summertime!

From vintage bathing suits to the science behind sunscreen, our fun, interactive activities are designed for science lovers of all ages. Take an up-close look at interesting items in our handling collection. Stop by our Object Explorer touch table to learn about the science behind everyday items like ice cube trays and LED light bulbs. Chat with our experienced Gallery Guides to find out more about the people responsible for the science embedded in our daily lives.

10:00 a.m - 4:00 p.m: Free Museum Days: Lemon Hill Mansion Museum

Lemon Hill Mansion is a historic house museum highlighting Federal architecture and featuring spectacular views of the city of Philadelphia. Lemon Hill Mansion was built by wealthy merchant Henry Pratt in 1800 as the centerpiece of his garden estate. A beloved place of recreation for 19th century Philadelphians, Lemon Hill was the first property purchased by the City of Philadelphia in creating the new Fairmount Park.

10:00 a.m - 4:00 p.m: Free Museum Days: Woodford Mansion Museum

Visitors will be given a guide tour of the Woodford Mansion, a 1756 National Historic Landmark that displays the Naomi Wood Collection of 18th century furniture, household good, decorative and fine arts. Much of the furniture and decorative objects in the Mansion were made by Philadelphia craftsmen for families in the area. They will hear about the Coleman, Barclay, Franks and Wharton families who used Woodford as a summer retreat, and they will learn the stories of Phila, Azmin, Hagar, Greenwich, and Peter, enslaved Africans who worked as domestic servants for the Coleman and Franks families.

12:00 p.m - 4:00 p.m: Free Museum Days: Paul Robeson House & Museum

The Paul Robeson House was the home of internationally renowned American bass-baritone concert singer, actor of film and stage, All-American and professional athlete, writer, multi-lingual orator, human rights activist, and lawyer Paul Robeson from 1966 until 1976. The Paul Robeson House and Museum in Philadelphia is owned by the West Philadelphia Cultural Alliance.

Here We Stand: Celebrating Robeson’s Past- Activating our Future
The Paul Robeson House & Museum will present a new exhibit, "Reflections: Women of Robeson’s Legacy."

This exhibit honors these women who supported and who were impactful to Robeson’s story and his life. This multi-media art exhibition will highlight these five women. Maria Bustill Robeson, (Robeson’s Mother) Eslanda Goode Robeson, (Robeson’s Wife) Marian Robeson Forsythe, (Robeson’s sister) Frances P. Aulston, (Founder of WPCA) and Vernoca Michael. (Robeson’s niece & Former Executive Director)

An interactive part of the exhibition allows visitors to become part of the legacy of Robeson and join a long line of women who were Innovators and influencers.

2:00 p.m - 8:00 p.m: Concilio’s Annual Hispanic Fiesta

This two-day festival, supported by PECO, unites people of all ages through food, dance, and music to celebrate Hispanic culture and heritage. New this year Philadelphia’s largest event of its kind will move to the John F. Kennedy Bridge at 20th & John F. Kennedy Boulevard. Both days are jam packed with great performances, including legendary artist Joseph Fonseca, an icon of merengue music, and Huey Dunbar, one of the most prominent representatives of the history of salsa in all the Hispanic countries.

While you’re there, be sure to delve into cultural cuisine at the Oasis Waterfront Food Market supported by the Philadelphia International Airport and explore the many vendors and activations, including the Well-being on Wheels presented by Independence Blue Cross, featuring free health screenings, wellness information, and nutrition takeaways.
