Swamp Creek Stomp 5K Trail Run
This is the 9th Annual Swamp Creek Stomp 5K Trail Run. The trail flows through two park sections of approximately 100 acres, Bob Wayland Memorial Park and Constable Charles Spellhoffer Memorial Park at Swamp Creek. This is not a typical boring 5K; it has some muddy areas, some technical areas, several creek crossings, some short hills, tree roots, logs, vines, some open fields, beautiful scenery and lots of fun. The run starts out with some open field to spread everyone out. A new section of trail will take you through "Beaver Pass" where our resident beaver has been hard at work. Then you hit a little bit of mud at "Cat Tail Trail", but don't worry, it will get washed off as you Stomp thru the 20' wide Swamp Creek. It gets a little technical as you run along the the "Old Mill Race" then back thru the Swamp Creek. You will run thru the "Dog Leg" at Constable Charles Spellhoffer Memorial Park at Swamp Creek, then cross Colonial Road and pass thru historic "Henry's Woods". After crossing the "Dirt Road" it gets a little technical again as you make your way through "The Mud Bog" and head toward the "Tunnel of Cedars". Then you and make a quick decent down the "Big Hill" to another stream crossing. Some short hills and the "Twisted Tree" let you know the end is near. As you break out of the woods you will find some open area to sprint before the finish line at the top of the hill! The trail is challenging and lots of fun!
