Artist Statement:
“I find creative passion by envisioning and capturing the world surrounding me and the light that permeates it with dreamlike, magical, and unique focus,”
Liz finds joy in light and life. Her inspiration comes from the beauty of the everyday moments, the blessings of God’s amazing creation. She lives in her hometown in South-Central Pennsylvania with her family where she practices occupational therapy in early intervention, runs, hikes, and bikes in the nearby forests and farmlands, and creates art and vision through the lens. She explores and expands her vision through creative lenses and techniques to develop art with elements of depth, mystery, layers, curiosity, hope, and storytelling. She enjoys teaching, inspiring, and equipping others to tell the unique stories of their lives through photography.
Background of Work:
Liz uses a variety of creative lenses and techniques to express the life-filled stories of the world around her. Although a camera has been in her hands most of her life, during the pandemic she embarked on a project of capturing beauty in uncertainty. Every day for a year she shared an image of the natural world in hopes of focusing herself and those who viewed it on hope and wonder in the midst of the upheaval of the world as we knew it. Through this process she began to observe and appreciate the unique ways she was able to use the tool of the camera to create compelling art.
She utilizes Lensbaby lenses, optics, and filters to add a unique flair that emphasizes the balance of focus and blur, light and shadows while also infusing splashes of color. Liz also explores in-camera double exposures and intentional camera movement which emphasize layering and enhance a sense of mystery.
Liz appreciates the endless rewards of being an artist. The experiences she has connecting with the natural world and viewing it with wonder and gratitude are remarkably valuable. They enable her to share the light of life, and the accompanying hope, vision, joy, and peace. Through the sharing of her art digitally, in galleries, and through teaching, she values the opportunities to connect with others, to experience their stories, to speak life into their art, to affirm their gifts and vision, to equip them to use the available tools to create. She is ever-thankful for the rewards of relationship, connection, and empowerment for all who her art touches.
