or pumpkin pick

Everyone has their idea of the perfect pumpkin, some like them round and squat, some like them tall and narrow. Luckily for everyone, Oregon has plenty of pumpkin patches to choose from. So, grab a cup of apple cider, hop on the hay wagon and head out to the 8 best pumpkin patches in Oregon.

The Pumpkin Patch, Portland, OR

For over 45 years, Oregonians have been getting their pumpkins from the Pumpkin Patch on Sauvie Island, just outside downtown Portland. Hop on a hayride to head out to pick the perfect pumpkin. But when you return there is still plenty to do and see at the Pumpkin Patch - navigate through the corn maze, pet the animals in the Big Red Barn, grab a bite at the Patio Café, and don't forget to grab some gifts and fresh veggies to take home from the store.

Pheasant Fields Farm, Medford, OR

Bring the whole family down to Pheasant Fields Farm for the Harvest Festival on weekends in October. Take a hay ride around the farm, explore the corn maze then head on over to the animal exhibit and ride the 10-passenger Cow Train. Head home after a fun day to carve your jack-o-lantern and get ready to trick or treat.

Mahaffy Ranch, Coos Bay, OR

Harvest season runs all October long at Mahaffy Ranch. Join the gang for hay rides, corn mazes and, on Friday through Sunday, savor the last bite barbecue. Then grab your own pumpkin to take home with you. It’s the perfect place for family fun.

Smith Rock Ranch, Terrebonne, OR

Make a day of your trip to the Smith Rock Ranch. They have the traditional pumpkin patch activities like wagon rides, corn mazes, and of course pumpkins, but they have a lot more to offer. Animals are everywhere at this dog-friendly ranch, take a ride on a pony or if you want a little more speed hop on the Zoo Train and visit the Animal House. How about a little target practice? Smith Rock Ranch not only offers archery, but they also give you a try at shooting the pumpkin cannon to see how good your aim is. Finally, finish off the day with some putt putt barnyard golf.

Bauman's Farm & Garden, Gervais, OR

If you're in the Salem area, stop in at Bauman's Farm rain or shine. Test your speed, strength, and skill on their obstacle course. Get lost in the twists and turns of the dark hay maze, guard the frontier fort, or even mine for gems along the way to pick your pumpkins. Looking for more? Bauman Farms offers laser tag, apple cider tasting, apple cannons, and apple sling shots.

Fazio Farms, Portland, OR

Also on the beautiful Sauvie Island, Fazio Farms is best known for their creatively designed 6.5-acre corn maze. Sound a little intimidating? They also offer a smaller hay maze suitable for all ages. Other activities include a goat farm, hayrides, a bouncy slide, pumpkin ring toss…oh, and pumpkin picking! All just a short drive from the city center.

Bushue's Family Farm, Boring, OR

If the scent of homemade donuts doesn't get you…then you are clearly superhuman. Grab a donut and play a round of Pumpkin Bowling before hopping on the hayride to pick your future jack-o-lantern while taking in the view of majestic Mt. Hood. There's still tons of fun waiting for the little ones who can explore the adventure park, ride the pig train, and make their own Dirt Babies topped with green grassy hair. Got a special occasion ahead? Rent out the event space for a birthday party or family get together.

Plumper Pumpkin Patch & Tree Farm, Portland, OR

Open the last week of September through Halloween (and then again for Christmas tree season), Plumper Pumpkin Patch is named after the plumper pumpkins grown on the farm. Pick a plumper pumpkin (say that five times fast) and then head over to the play area to cruise through the tube slides and squirm around in the grain jump. On the weekends enjoy the pumpkin cannon, train rides, and face painting.
