The 8 Best Bookstores in Oregon!

or bookstores

Books are as characteristic of Oregon as microbrews and coffee. From shops offering classic pieces of literature, to stores with an inventory of over four million, great bookstores are found all over the state. Not only are these stores great places to find your next favorite book, but also a good place to cozy up with a cup of coffee or find cool knickknacks. Here are just 8 of the best.

Forecastle Books, Brookings, OR

One look at the interior of Forecastle Books is all it takes to tell you it’s owned by a couple of dedicated book lovers. You’ll both new and used books among its shelves, and when you need a break from browsing through the stacks, you can refresh with a cup of freshly-brewed coffee from a local roaster.

Bloomsbury Books, Ashland, OR

With a name that’s a nod to an early 20th century, loosely knit circle of intellectuals, artists, and writers in London’s Bloomsbury District, Bloomsbury Books in Ashland is dedicated to the cultivation of independent thought. Their carefully-curated literature includes contemporary fiction for children and adults, works by local writers, and, as befitting a bookstore in the home of one of the world’s best Shakespearean festivals, a large Shakespeare collection. Step upstairs to Bloomsbury Coffee House to peruse your new purchases with coffee and a treat.

Smith Family Bookstore, Eugene, OR

Eugene residents love Smith Family Bookstore so much that one location isn’t enough—you’ll find one location in downtown Eugene and another near the University of Oregon campus. All genres of literature are well-represented here, and the inventory at both Smith locations is constantly changing. Students can save significant sums on textbooks by buying them used at the campus location.

The Book Bin, Salem, OR

Locally owned and operated by the same Salem family since 1984, the Book Bin is conveniently located in downtown Salem and sells quality new and used books. It provides a meeting place for several Salem book clubs, and hosts a poetry night on the last Friday of each month. Visiting as well as local authors are often available for reading and signing events. The Book Bin has a sister store in the nearby college town of Corvallis.

Dudley’s Bookshop Café, Bend, OR

Located in the heart of the beautiful Central Oregon community of Bend, Dudley’s specializes in good books and good coffee. Books are both new and used, and coffee is from local roaster Bonsai Beans. Tea lovers won’t be disappointed with the café, however, and neither will wine and beer enthusiasts, so grab a book and peruse it at your leisure with the beverage of your choice.

Betty’s Books, Inc., Baker City, OR
