Mary Rutan Hospital

Our History:

Mary Rutan Hospital came into existence as a gift of Rebecca R. Williams in 1916. Mrs. Williams' will specified that the property, deeded to the city of Bellefontaine, was to be used for a hospital, and the hospital to be named in memory of her mother, Mary Rutan. Construction began, and in 1919 the doors opened to a 25-bed, two-floor hospital. Multiple expansions have occurred during the hospital's 100-year history, each time increasing services offered to the community.

In 1978, Mary Rutan Hospital became a not-for-profit corporation after being a municipal hospital since its origin. Along with this change, the hospital officially became Mary Rutan Hospital of Logan County, serving as the county's only total acute healthcare facility.

In 1984, the hospital implemented a second phase of corporate restructuring by which Mary Rutan Health Association was formed and became the holding corporation for Mary Rutan Hospital and two other entities, namely Mary Rutan Foundation and Logan View, LLC.
