Exhibition - The Art and History of Democracy: Through the Eyes of the 21st-Century American Child

This exhibit provides a visual narrative of American democracy as understood through the camera lenses of American children. Comprised exclusively of digital photography created by middle school students from Stark, Summit, and Medina counties, the artworks represented are the result of the award-winning Illuminate digital photography project sponsored by the Kent Area (OH) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated, in partnership with the Massillon Museum. Images depict a pivotal moment in American history. Freedom, civil rights, immigration, and the election process are all themes prominently displayed through the dynamic images.
In the “Best Overall Photograph” category, Sembelly Jimenez placed first; Saeedah Haines, second; Maria Alexander, third; Dejanay Scott, fourth; and Kimora Elliott, honorable mention. For the “Best Spirit of America” catagory, Sembelly Jimenez earned first; Elijah Ware, second; Camryn Anthony, third; and Titus Ware, honorable mention. Best “Democracy in Action” awards went to Dai’Brielle Zanders, first; Carter Walker, second; Landon Walker, third; and Jack Powell, honorable mention.
