Exhibition: Family Means to Me

The Massillon Museum will exhibit Family Means to Me in its Fred F. Silk Community Room Gallery from April 6 through June 9, 2024.  Current Northeast Ohio public, private, parochial, and homeschool students, kindergarten through twelfth grade, were invited to submit their original two-dimensional artwork inspired by what family means to them.

The exhibition will be held in conjunction with the 17th annual NEA Big Read in Massillon. This year’s book selection is Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi, a historical fiction novel that traces eight generations of a family descended from two half sisters born in Ghana.

A free, public reception for the young artists will take place during the NEA Big Read kickoff on Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Two other Big Read-related exhibitions—Home Again: The Embodiment of Africa through Art and Fabric and Monica Jane Frisell and Adam Scher: Portrait of US—can be viewed that afternoon, along with all Museum galleries. Free copies of Homegoing will be available during the kickoff. The Massillon Public Library's bookmobile will be onsite, and En-RICH-ment's drumline will perform.
