12:00 - 1:45 PM: Workshop: Keeping It Legal with Jason Aylesworth
If you're going to make art, or make money from art, it's good to know something about the law. The entertainment industry is full of different types of businesses, each with its own standards and practices. The film business is different from the television business. The music business is different from the live theatrical performance business. When and where they intersect is yet another business. A good entertainment lawyer understands the particular business their client is engaged in; a great entertainment lawyer understands the art as well. With a background in both art and law, attorney Jason Aylesworth is both.
In this workshop, Jason will cover the importance of contracts, copyright and collaboration and how you can best incorporate them into your artistic work. If you've ever had a question about entertainment law and didn't have anyone to ask, this workshop is for you!
Jason Aylesworth is a partner at Sendroff & Baruch, LLP, and received the New York State Bar Association’s Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year Award in 2016. He has been recognized by Super Lawyers since 2017, and this year has been recognized by Best Lawyers. As an attorney for Sendroff & Baruch, LLP since 2009, he represents a wide variety of artists in theatre, music, film and television including dramatists, performers, directors, choreographers, orchestrators, arrangers, programmers and designers, as well as producers, music publishers and theatre companies. Jason received his Bachelors of Arts degree from Fordham University (where he majored in Theatre and Economics), and his Certificate in Film Production from Brooklyn College.
