10 Best Student Discounts in New York
Everyone loves a good discount, especially as a student. When you’re off on your own in college or just starting your first job at 16, making decent money can be tough—so it’s understandable you want to save money where you can. While a lot of chain restaurants and stores offer discounts to students, we’ve culled a list of local places throughout the state where being a student will benefit you.

Bard & Baker, Troy, NY
Bard & Baker is the Capital Region’s first board game cafe. There’s a $5 cover charge (per person) to stay and play as long as you like. If you get hungry, there’s a menu with food and drinks you can order and have brought to your table, including pizza bagels, crispy potatoes, and mac and cheese. Students and faculty, with valid photo ID, will receive 10 percent off their order (minus alcoholic beverages).
The Cherry Arts, Ithaca, NY
The Cherry Arts is the resident theatre company at The Cherry Artspace. Their company is composed of Ithaca-area professional artists who perform radically local, global, and innovative works. Admission for students with ID is $10 per ticket for all the company productions throughout the season.
City of Rochester Public Market, Rochester, NY
The City of Rochester hosts a public market every year and encourages local college students to explore the Greater Rochester area. Each year the Market has a special discount sheet exclusively for students, in hopes that they’ll come back time and time again. The sheet has a selection of coupons for different Market vendors, and all you need are the coupons on a mobile device, the sheet, or a valid student ID.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY
At the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York students (with a valid ID) can pay as much or as little as they like for admission. The recommended price is $12, as it goes to help the museum thrive, and is the same amount you’ll pay if you purchase tickets online—which is still less than the $25 general admission fee.
Heartspace Yoga, Albany, NY
Heartspace Yoga is a community-oriented studio that has yoga, meditation, and healing arts classes available. Admission for students at the Everson Museum is just $6. The Everson was the first museum to dedicate itself to the collection of American art. The museum is home to around 11,000 works of art, including American drawings, graphics, paintings, sculpture, and video, as well as one of the largest collections of international ceramics nationwide.
Amherst Theatre, Buffalo, NY
The Amherst Theatre offers students matinee and evening tickets at $8.50 each, as long as they have a valid student ID. The Amherst has a variety of shows to enjoy, no matter your taste, including ballet, operas, plays, and movies. PaTea Bubble Tea, New York, NY
PaTea Bubble Tea offers variable student discounts and recommend you call to check on the current one before stopping in (if it’s a deal-breaker). They serve macchiatos, tea lattes, and slushes. Honest Weight Food Co-op, Albany, NY
Every Sunday, college students can bring their IDs to Honest Weight Food and get eight percent off their groceries. Honest Weight is only one of 200 cooperatively owned grocery stores in the U.S. They sell the basics: meat, seafood, eggs, bread, produce, etc. You can even get select items in bulk!
Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn, NY
The Brooklyn Botanic Garden offers students 12 and older (with a valid student ID) admission at just $8 compared to the regular $15 general admission.
