Turn-of-the-century prospector Daniel Planview (Daniel Day-Lewis) transforms from a struggling silver miner to oil tycoon in an arc that defies human values. Loosely based on Upton Sinclair’s 1927 novel Oil!, the film won Oscars for cinematography and for Day-Lewis as best actor in a leading role.
