The Science Museum of Long Island (SMLI) is excited to host its 2nd Annual Pumpkin Smash Fall Festival on Sunday at Leeds Pond Preserve This family-friendly event is the perfect way to wrap up your fall season, combining fun, live music, and sustainability while supporting the Chris Holmes Memorial Scholarship & Conservation Fund.
Bring your leftover pumpkins, jack-o-lanterns, and gourds to smash, sling, and compost in a day packed with exciting activities. With new, improved, and repeat-favorite smashing stations, everyone can join in on the fun All smashed pumpkin waste will be composted on-site, helping you dispose of your pumpkins in an environmentally friendly way.
Featured Pumpkin Smashing Stations:
The Pumpkin Smash Slingshot – Launch pumpkins toward a target in the Gaga Pit with a giant slingshot Smaller pumpkins work best, and adults should assist with returning the slingshot basket for safety.
The Pumpkin Smash Dart Wall – Test your aim and see how many pumpkins you can hit on the target wall
The Pumpkin Smash Dead Drop – Experience the thrill of smashing pumpkins from above
The Great Pumpkin Volcano – Watch pumpkins explode with smashing fun
Rudy – the Great Pumpkin Eater – Feed your pumpkins to Rudy, the legendary pumpkin-devouring attraction.
Pumpkin Bowling – Bowl over pins with your old pumpkins in this hilarious game.
Pumpkin Tic Tac Toe – Play a giant version of Tic Tac Toe using pumpkins and hay bales
The Community Compost Activity Center – Learn how to start composting at home from Claire Brezel, who will teach the importance of sustainability and how SMLI is contributing to community composting efforts.
Enjoy live music throughout the day by local favorites Tucker Woods and Potato Phoenix, adding to the festival atmosphere
In addition to smashing pumpkins, you can meet some of SMLI’s resident animals, enjoy fall-inspired drinks and food (note that food is not included in the ticket price). All proceeds from this event will benefit the Chris Holmes Memorial Scholarship & Conservation Fund, which helps children attend SMLI’s summer camp and supports local environmental projects like the Oyster Project, aimed at reducing pollution in Manhasset Bay.
