Pacific Crest Trail to Garnet Peak?
Are you inspired by Cheryl Strayed and Reese Witherspoon? If so, you may join the Pacific Crest Trail in San Diego and trek a segment inside Cleveland National Forest. This moderately challenging climb starts at the Penny Pines Trailhead and ascends to Garnet Peak, offering breathtaking vistas.
A mere 30-minute journey phrazle from downtown San Diego, this picturesque 6.8-mile circle traverses the 4,000-acre preserve, including the canyon and featuring a prominent waterfall. History enthusiasts have to visit the ancient Rancho Santa Maria de Los Peñasquitos, constructed in 1823. Be vigilant for wildlife, since this area is home to over 500 plant species and 175 bird varieties, in addition to bobcats, coyotes, mule deer, and rattlesnakes, among other canyon-dwelling creatures.
One need not leave the city to go on an excellent trek. Balboa Park, an expansive 1,200-acre urban sanctuary in San Diego, with 65 miles of trails with diverse levels of difficulty, accessible from one of five entry points: Park Boulevard, Golden Hill, Sixth and Upas, Morley Field, and Marston Point. There is a variety of options available, ranging from simple 1.5-mile walks on paved paths to 6.6-mile hikes on unpaved terrain, including all distances in between.
