One of the newest student ensembles at the Eastman School of Music, the Eastman Jazz Voice Ensemble, will present its first concert in Kilbourn Hall. Led by Eastman’s Associate Professor of Jazz Voice, GRAMMY Award-winning vocalist Sara Gazarek, the 14-member ensemble will perform a wide-reaching set of repertoire - from traditional and swing-oriented jazz voice ensemble arrangements to contemporary works, featuring soloists with backing and polyphonic ensemble moments accompanied by rhythm section.
This concert marks the beginning of Jazz Voice’s place in the Eastman canon and the first performed exclusively by Jazz Voice majors and other vocalists interested in learning about singing jazz. Gazarek says, “It’s an exciting opportunity to share what the presence of a new Jazz Voice degree might represent for the Eastman community at large—our ensemble is made up of jazz voice majors, opera students and even a student from our River Campus. All of them have come together to learn, shape, communicate and share the music that moves them, in the hopes that it moves the audience as well.”
