Exhibition Opening Reception - R A Jenkin American Hieroglyphs

Jane St Art Center
11 Jane Street, Suite A
I use small everyday and iconic objects and symbols to create large multi-layered works that reflect American symbolism, history and culture, which can also extend to other cultures, in particular Eastern Europe.
The meaning of each small piece, in part, lies in its simplicity. Each amalgamated completed work has a larger and more complex meaning.
Some of the images – such as paper postage stamps, pennants, tears, stones, crosses, printed pieces of silk- are meant to evoke an idea or a question, or spark a narrative or a memory.
Materials used include paper, silk, antique silk thread, polyester, pen and ink, bubble wrap, vinyl and a variety of fabrics.
