Callicoon Theater
About Us
The Callicoon Theater, open year-'round, screens current popular films; alternative and foreign films are screened in a monthly CineArt series from September through June. Whether you visit Callicoon, the pristine Delaware River, local resorts and campsites, or are looking for real estate in the Sullivan County Catskills, stop in and share the special Callicoon Theater experience.
The Callicoon Theater is the oldest continuously operating cinema in Sullivan County. The theater was built in 1948 in Quonset hut design with laminated beams and post-Art Deco accouterments and is the last of a chain of country theaters that dotted the Catskills. In the early 1990s, the Callicoon Theater was refurbished. While projection, sound and air conditioning are now state-of-the-art, the structural integrity and the design and visual flavor of the theater have been retained. The original waterfall curtain remains in place, as do the 1940s post-Art Deco light fixtures, water fountain and Manley popcorn machine. Seats are roomier and offer more leg room. Admission prices also reflect the past, as they are lower than other theaters in the Catskill Region. Special group rates are available.
