In Berlin in 1931, as Nazism rises in Germany, flamboyant American cabaret singer Sally Bowles (Liza Minnelli) performs in a decadent nightclub and falls in love with a British Academic (Michael York) – whose relationship is complicated by the arrival of the wealthy German playboy. But Sally's carefree, tolerant cabaret world is about to be crushed under the boot of the Nazis. Bob Fosses’ landmark musical took on Hollywood taboos and forever changed the genre - winning eight Academy Awards including Best Director of Fosse and Best Actress for Liza Minnelli.
